Hydrotherapy

Karrinyup Physiotherapy is now running supervised hydrotherapy classes at Kirby Swim School located in Gwelup shopping centre. Exercising in water is a great form of gentle therapeutic exercise for a wide range of people. Whether you are recovering post-operatively or you have general aches and pains, hydrotherapy is a great way to keep active in a warm relaxing environment.

Benefit of hydrotherapy

Due to the warmth and buoyancy effects water provides, exercising in a pool can reduce pain with joint movement and assist with muscular relaxation. This gives you a great window of opportunity to work on muscle strength/endurance and improve joint range of motion.

Conditions that may benefit from an individualised hydrotherapy program include:

  • Osteoarthritis/rheumatoid arthritis
  • Whiplash and other neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Rehabilitation following fractures, hip/knee replacements etc.
  • Back and pelvic pain during pregnancy
  • Balance/co-ordination
  • Sports injuries
  • Tendinopathies
  • Work and accident related injuries

An individual physiotherapy assessment (30mins) is required prior to commencing our hydrotherapy class to assess mobility, strength and balance and formulate an individualised exercise/rehabilitation program.

About the classes:

Our classes run for one hour with supervision from a physiotherapist who is in the water with the patients at all times.

Maximum of 5 participants/class

Classes are $35 or $30.50 for pensioners and may be partially covered under private health insurance

Classes currently run every Tuesday from 1-2pm and 2-3pm at Kirby Swim in Gwelup.
